MEET DEVON
New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community
My name is Devon Lawson. My journey began in Oklahoma, where I was born, and continued along the banks of the McKenzie River, right here in Lane County. Growing up in a hardworking family, I learned early on that nothing is more important than looking out for our neighbors, standing up for fairness, and making sure that everyone has a real shot at a better life.

From the time I was in the 5th grade, I found myself volunteering on local political campaigns. I caught the “service bug” by listening to my papa's stories. He’s an Iraq War Veteran who bravely served our country and came home with injuries that could’ve been far worse had it not been for President Obama’s healthcare reforms and improvements to the VA system. Seeing how crucial these programs were to my grandpa’s well-being opened my eyes to the power politics has to ease suffering and lift people up.
Those experiences drove me to become the first person in my family to head to college, where I’ve dedicated myself to creating positive change for all families in Lane County. I'm even dual-enrolled in both college and high school. Whether it’s testifying on education bills in Salem or working shoulder to shoulder with school boards, I’ve always believed we can find common ground when we put people first.

I’m proud to be running for the Lane Community College Board of Education to bring a fresh perspective and moral renewal to our community. I’m an outsider to the status quo, but I’m no stranger to hard work or rolling up my sleeves to get things done. If you believe in honest leadership that values unity, respects each voice, and fights for working families, I invite you to join our movement. Let’s build a Lane County where everyone from Oakridge to Coburg, from the McKenzie River to the coast, can chase their dreams and know their Board of Education has their back.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we will forge a brighter path forward for every student, family, and community member in Lane County.
